Derbyshire Peak District Art and Photo Holidays

image post

The Peak District is one of our favourite worldwide locations, not just for the beautiful scenery, but with the variety of landscapes and subject material perfect for the photographer and outdoors lover, it's always dramatic and never boring. Our Derbyshire base is in the beautiful and historic hamlets of Edale, famed for being the starting point of the Pennine Way, Britains long distance footpath running from Edale to Kirk Yetholm in Scotland.

Photography

On a photography holiday with us, we concentrate on the magnificent scenery surrounding us, the rugged landscapes and generally capturing the atmosphere that is unique to the Peak District National Park.
Don't worry about ideas and inspiration, We will show you a slideshow of images from the area to get those creative juices flowing. From our base, in Derbyshire, we will take our small group to some of our favourite locations that we have discovered from many years of exploring here with our cameras. The group will spend all day in the field breaking for a picnic or pub lunch and then back to base at the end of the day for taste of the local fare and to reflect on the days photographic adventures.

What you will learn

The ability to spot an image is something every photographer has even thought they arent always aware of it. We will help you develop and activate this ability and teach you methods of improving your images and developing your photographic techniques.
There are rules to the art of composition.; They are not hard and fast but before you break them its advisable to know what they are.
Quality of light is crucial to a great landscape. You will learn what type of light suits a particular subject, how light interacts with what you are shooting, and the effect of different types of light.
Whether you use the in-camera meter or a hand-held spot meter, you will learn how to fine tune your metering and what method suits your subject
The over-use of filters is a common mistake but when used correctly, a filter can make the difference between a great image and one for the bin. Any camera whether digital or film can only see a limited range of tones, so in certain conditions, areas of your picture will either be over or under exposed. We will show you how to control extreme exposure ranges by using neutral density grads and how to enhance colours with polarising and warming filters.
Many people simply shoot on Auto mode and let their camera make all the decisions. You will learn how to optimise your camera to suit your requirements, then how to make the most of your cameras functions to suit the shooting conditions and subject. You will discover the different techniques used for photographing water both moving and still, and the different dramatic effects that are possible.
