Art and Photo Holidays In Brittany
Photography Holidays in Brittany
Brittany is one of the most popular regions of France with visitors for several reasons: the attractive coastline, beaches and fishing villages, the islands off the Breton coast, the historic architecture of some of the towns and many prehistoric landmarks.
The département of Côtes-d'Armor ('the land of the sea') with its rugged and beautiful coastline is quintessentially Breton. The universal building material in this area is granite, which affords maximum protection against the winter and gives towns and villages a sober but attractive aspect. In itself St-Brieuc, capital of the département, is not a particularly touristy destination but it is surrounded by plenty of charming little seaside villages and pretty coves. Medieval Dinan, dating from the 13th century, is a very attractive small town on the Rance Valley to the east of the département, its ramparts being the oldest in Brittany.
Known for its gently rolling countryside, arable farming, cider and Calvados, Brittany is also an ideal location for art and photography.
Our base for our Brittany holidays is located just outside the village of Plemy, a few kilometers from medieval Montcontour. It is a modern, well-equipped chalet house set in extensive grounds with uninterrupted views over surrounding countryside. You will be treated as friends of your hosts, Sue and her husband master chef Ed Miller, who will keep you entertained with stories and local information. Their charming country home is furnished with antiques and beautiful furnishings but please note that this is not an hotel with en-suite facilities but a private family home where you will share facilities with your fellow course members.
Your choice of Course.
We offer a choice of either Art or Photography Courses which run concurrently.
Learn basic drawing skills using pencils, dabble with water colours or create that masterpiece in oils under the expert guidance of your tutor Peter Carmen, or improve your photography techniques under the guidance of professional photographer and tutor Julia Reid.
Group sizes are kept small so you are assured easy access to the tutor at all times. All levels of expertise are catered for and we offer courses for Beginners, Intermediate and more Advanced students. (Choose your level of course)
Timetable
We start the day with breakfast at approximately 8.30am with the courses commencing at 9.30am although this can vary depending on the time of year and plans for the day.
Generally we begin with a Powerpoint presentation or instruction session before heading out on location to put into practice what we have learnt.
Lunch is usually taken in local cafes or you can order a packed lunch.
We return to our base at approx 4.00 – 4.30pm when you will have the chance to have the day’s work critiqued or to relax before meeting for drinks at 6.30pm prior to a delicious dinner prepared by Ed, our host.
